Brooke Shields has recently criticized Miley Cyrus' VMA performance, claiming it was too raunchy for her daughters to watch.
She said, "I just want to know who is advising her and why it's necessary (to do that). My six year old and my 10 year old, they can't watch that. She can sing beautifully, and I feel like if she lets that lead, rather than let her bottom lead... I feel it's a bit desperate - you're trying to be (Lady) Gaga... but it's different... She's trying so, so hard."
However, while Miley didn't immediately respond on Twitter, she took the opportunity in an extensive interview with Rolling Stone to reply to Brooke's comments. She said, "Brooke Shields was in a movie where she was a prostitute at age 12!"
On the one hand, you can argue that they were both performances and not necessarily indicative of what the actual actors were going through. However, Brooke's medium was acting and make-believe, whereas Miley's performance seemed design to get people talking and increase the controversy. However, Miley claims that she was just doing it to explore her future as an artist, and we'll have to see if Brooke decides to respond to Miley's barb.
