The amount of illegal music downloads that take place continues to increase every year, having a big impact on the music industry as a whole. We have decided to have a look into the world of illegal music ownloads and exactly how they do impact the music industry, including the artists, the record companies and the guys behind the scenes, who rarely get a mention.
Fergie is a big loaded star

Illegal downloading of music has a serious financial impact on everybody involved, including the people who are doing the downloading themselves. It was reported that music sales in the US have dropped by over 47% since the arrival of the likes of Napster, which has caused huge financial losses for the record companies. This has led to them filing law suits against those illegally downloading music.

This loss in money then leads to the loss of jobs, as the companies can no longer afford to employ certain people in specific roles. This includes the loss of jobs for songwriteres, producers, engineers, marketing support, technicians and, in some cases, artists themselves. It was recently reported that over 71,000 jobs have been lost due to illegal music downloads.

The fall in profits also sees record companies unable to afford to focus as much time and money on new talent, as they need to focus their efforts and their established money making artists. This leads to less and less new artists getting their big break, forcing them to try and find alternative ways of getting their music out there.

Despite the fact that most people know and understand the results and effects of illegally downoading music, that has not stopped it from increasing every year and, until something is really done about it, illegal music downloads will continue to increase, causing further problems for those involved in the music industry.
